Vestas starts large production facility in Ceara
Vestas establishes large production facility in Maracanaú, distric from the capital Fortaleza, in Brazil
The 10,000 m2 production will be located in Fortaleza suburb Maracanaú close to the shopping center North Shopping Maracanaú.
The production facility is primarily responsible for the
assembly of the so-called nacelles, while also three units
responsible for service and maintenance, training, as well as spare
parts and supply change activities will be established. Vestas
wants to develop a strong network of local suppliers which can
deliver main components, products, spare parts and services for the
manufacturing and production of its operations in the
country.
According to local media, 80 % of the many new employees will come
from the local community, of which 50 % will come from the local
youth. Wind energy currently accounts for only 1 % of the
total energy capacity in Brazil, while the government's stated goal
is that wind energy by 2020 will reach 7 % of the country's total
energy consumption.
